MAT 0018 - Basic Mathematics

This course is designed to help students develop the basic skills necessary for success in MAT 0028, Elementary Algebra. The course involves a variety of teaching and learning methods, including lab-enhanced learning, lecture, discussion, cooperative learning, and others.  The major topics in the course are operations with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, as well as ratios and proportions, percents, signed numbers and geometry. An introduction to Algebra will also be discussed. This course does not apply toward the associate degree.
Prerequisites: Appropriate score on a college placement test.
Credit Hours:4. 
Contact Hours: 8 contact hours: Lab-based learning, lecture, discussion, cooperative learning and other relevant instructional methods.
Student Advising Notes –  MAT 0018 (Basic Mathematics) will replace MAT 0002 (Basic Mathematics).
